Amber and I.

Living in Alaska.

Amber and I left Missouri on September 26th, 2021, for an adventure in Alaska. Amber received a position as the school district’s accounts payable and I as a K-6 Multi-Grade Classroom Teacher at Takotna Community School in Takotna, AK.

Amber and I left Takotna, AK in May of 2022 for our new location in McGrath, AK. I took on a new role as a K-12 Itinerant Special Education Provider for the 22-23 school year.

McGrath, AK (June 2022 – May 2023)

297 Lumettaville Ave. P.O. Box 297 McGrath, AK 99627

A community with a nice mixture of Native and Non-Natives, about 300 or so folks. There is a paved airport, two churches, a few community centers, a gas station, a grocery store, a post office, a radio station, and a restaurant. The community clears the snow off the roads everywhere. Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race and Iron Dog Race come through town.

Takotna, AK (September 2021 – May 2022)

P.O. Box 7510 Takotna, AK 99675

Takotna was a unique place to live. A very small community of 30 or so locals. While most people appear to have been transplanted from somewhere else, they treated Amber and me like foreigners. Most of the community never bothered us, and there seemed to be very little to no crime at all. We did enjoy the beauty of seeing Takotna Mountain, but that was about it.
